Welcome back to Runpadel World , ready to continue learning about padel?
This sport requires not only skill and strategy, but also the right equipment to ensure the best performance on the court. One of the key components of your equipment is the overgrip, a band that fits over the grip of your racket to improve grip and comfort. Changing or adding an overgrip may seem like a simple task, but doing it correctly can make a big difference to your game.
An overgrip is a tape that is placed over the original grip of the racket. Its main function is to provide better grip, sweat absorption, and greater comfort during play. It also helps extend the life of the original grip by protecting it from wear and tear.
Benefits of Using an Overgrip:
- Better Grip : Reduces the risk of the paddle slipping out of your hand.
- Sweat Absorption : Keeps your hands dry, improving paddle control.
- Comfort : Provides a more cushioned feel and reduces hand fatigue.
- Protection : Extends the life of the original grip of the racket.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Preparation :
- Remove the old overgrip if necessary. This can be done by carefully peeling off the tape holding it in place and unrolling it completely.
- Make sure the original grip is clean and dry before you begin.
- Unroll the New Overgrip :
- Unroll the new overgrip and remove the protective tape covering the adhesive on one end.
- Place the Adhesive End on the Base of the Handle :
- Start by placing the sticky end of the overgrip at the base of the paddle handle. Some players prefer to start at the bottom of the handle, while others prefer to start a little higher. Adjust according to your preference.
- Wrap the Overgrip Around the Handle :
- Start wrapping the overgrip around the paddle handle from the bottom. Make sure to stretch the overgrip slightly as you wrap it to prevent wrinkles and ensure a snug fit.
- Overlap each layer of overgrip over the previous one by approximately 1/4 of its width. This provides even coverage and ensures no gaps remain.
- Continue Wrapping to the Top of the Handle :
- Continue wrapping the overgrip until you reach the top of the handle. Adjust the tension as needed to keep the overgrip firm and even.
- Final Fixation :
- Once you reach the top of the handle, trim off the excess overgrip with scissors if necessary. Most overgrips come with adhesive tape to secure the end.
- Place the tape on the end of the overgrip to secure it in place.
- Final Adjustments :
- Make sure the overgrip is snug and comfortable. If you notice any wrinkles or loose parts, you can undo and rewrap that section.
It is also important to keep in mind:
- Change Frequency : Change your overgrip regularly, especially if you play frequently. A worn overgrip loses effectiveness.
- Variety of Overgrips : There are different types of overgrips (thick, thin, absorbent, etc.). Try several to find the one that best suits your needs.
- Hygiene : Keep your hands clean and dry before applying a new overgrip to prevent it from getting dirty quickly.
